About Us
In the early 1970s Mr. Mario Cassar made his
first step of venturing into the special effects
industry, working on his first film "The
Adventures of Morel" as a special effects
technician and employed as a Tank Manager /
Special Effects Supervisor with the Malta Film
Facilities. This project lead Mr. Cassar
to many others, from which he gained more
experience. Despite various difficulties
prevailing at the time, being a new industry in
a very small island, Mr. Cassar made it through
every obstacle that came in his way. Today
Mr. Cassar is proud to be one of the few Maltese
successors in the industry who have worked on
very big sets across the globe with a number of
Oscar Winning Directors and Producers.
Kenneth Cassar, the son of this special effects
wizard, started at the tender age of fifteen, as
an assistant with the SFX Department of the
Malta Film Facility. Although still in his
early thirties, he has been practically weaned
on the job by his late father Mario.
One of Kenneth's specialities is supervision and
coordinating on foreign film sets. He has worked
extensively on locations in Malta, Italy, Mexico
and Los Angeles, on films such as Troy, Munich,
U-571, Da Vinci Code, The Emperor's New Clothes,
Man of East, Helen of Troy, Julius Caeser and
more. Soon after returning from Universal
Studios, LA, father and son turned freelance and
formed their own local SFX company, MC-FX Malta.
Both started by setting up their facilities
which are situated inside Fort Ricasoli, Kalkara,
the place which has catered for some of the
largest film sets in the history of film.
This means that the workshops will be
seconds away from from your film set.
Apart from this MC-FX also owns a mobile SFX
workshop on wheels which can travel to other
film sets across the island.
Today the company has grown into one, with a
wide range of equipment and a team, made up of
individuals, that are all professional, many
having over twenty-five years of experience in
the industry. In 2007 Kenneth Cassar &
Ryan Gatt, an individual with high expectations,
decided that together they can hit many more
targets in the Film Market. Both sat down
to form a new company by the name of 360
Pictures, offering a wide range of services but
specialising mostly in Special Effects.
MC-FX has been given a new image and is now
operating under the trade name of Extreme
Effects
